Thurs night grooming report

Groomed crooked John - temps very warm. About 1" new snow by the time we left, but still about 33 degrees. Windy, drifts forming, still snowing moderately when we left - hope it cools off...

1-28 continued

I meant to sign off, but the finger passed too close to send. Ray

Mt. Haggin

I skied Vannas and up the SapSucker to Little Cal. Any idea what happened to the Death Dip and Sleepy Hollow signs? What about naming the new groomed trails to & past the hut?

Sounds good for 9:00. That makes 3. Let's do it your way Gus, and do the side stuff right at the start so we don't mess the main trails up later. That shouldn't delay getting the main stuff done very much.

Haggin Grooming

At least last Friday the plan was to groom this Friday - meet at 9:00AM. I am available. I hear there is around two inches of new snow.
What's happening for grooming trails this Friday.  I should be available.

Electronic Donation

Beau Larkin from Missoula donated electronically and commented, “Thanks for grooming the Mt. Haggin trails. We love them enough to come down from Missoula.”

Chores today

Paul:

I'm thinking about going up today to set out the bamboos and remove a few snowdowns. Any interest?

I'm good with waiting till next week to groom.  Maybe I'll be in better condition by then.  P
First of all, to answer Dave's question: Gus, Mark, and I groomed yesterday (Tuesday). First we tried  to knock things down with a combination of the two TiddTechs and a following Ginzu, but there was too much new stuff to keep the Ginzu going. We went back and got Mike Brickert's roller fixed up with a new lever and 2 new air springs and were able to get everything packed using the roller along with th 2 TiddTechs without too many problems. We didn't try to go back and set tracks, but it was still 4:00 when we left.

Dave, I think you will find a firm base with a bit of new stuff on top, based on how we left it and how much new stuff we got here last night. Please note from my Monday posting that the 2-stroke Skandic is down until we can install the 2 new headlamps. You'll still have the 3 4-strokes with headlamps good to go.

Gus and I are planning on catching things up Friday for the weekend. Gus is in Missoula till then. Mark is away on a ski trip. Paul, I'd suggest waiting another week if you're going to be tied up Friday.

Grooming Thursday night

What are the latest conditions at Haggin? We plan on grooming Thursday night - wondering what to expect?

I may be able to groom Thursday depending on how I feel in the morning.  I have a another doctors appointment Friday morning so will be unavailable that day.  P

Gus and I are looking for company to reopen Mt. Haggin! Anybody that wants to groom please respond with your availability.

Mt. Haggin got dumped on in this last storm. When we left Friday the gauge was down to 2.5 feet, but after a warm afternoon, today it was still above 3 feet. It's heavy snow so we are going to have to make an initial pass with the old Tidd-Tech/rollers. At the same time we could set out the bamboos in the usual places. When the next blow comes we'll be in trouble without them.

Gus and I worked on the bucket list. All three implement electrical systems are good to go. We did a Rube Goldberg fix on the Skandic 800 EFI kill switch and it functions as good as new! The old Skandic is out of service for the time being. We found the lighting coil and voltage regulator AOK, but both halogen bulbs are kaput. Go figure! We had to tear into the hood underpinnings to get at the bulbs, and since we have to acquire the new bulbs, we left the machine torn down in the small container. It will take an hour or more to put it all back together. Bombardier shame on you! Things like headlamps should be straightforward to replace. Not on the 2-stroke Skandic.

Even though skiers were bushwhacking today, they we all very enthusiastic and thanked us for our efforts. There were quite a bunch of skiers and snowshoers out, even though the Anaconda-Deer Lodge road crew had a day off. MT 569 was treacherous.

For Friday January 15th

I am planning to be there -9:00 AM or so.

1/15/16 Grooming Schedule

Gus: are we on for 9:00 tomorrow (Friday)?

Problems fixed (and problems still pending)

We replaced the tracksetter control switch on the Skandic 800 EFI. We freed up the actuator on the Brickert Ginzu tracksetter. We replaced the 6-way plug on the Brickert VK. We tried to troubleshoot the lights on the 2-stroke Skandic without success. We didn't have the schematic with us, but after checking it at home, it is a straight run from the voltage regulator to the lights. Since multiple filaments are not lighting, we must have a broken feed wire, a bad regulator, or bad lighting coil.

If I am reading the schematic correctly, the battery is only on the charging/lighting circuit when the ignition switch is in the Run position. Therefore the lights should come on  when the ignition switch is in the Run position, even if the regulator/lighting coil part of the circuit is bad order (or the engine isn't running).

Glad you guys are able to groom.  I have been under the weather and not feeling well all week so will not groom.  Paul

Gus: I'll wait to hear from you tomorrow , before I go.
Dave:

The sled is on the north end of the woodshed - where the bigger pieces are. The wood on the south end of the shed is slab material, easier to split for kindling. I'll add the old Skandic to the list.

Thursday night grooming Jan 14

We plan on grooming Thursday night - forecast indicates snow - anyone know what happened to the firewood sled? It was missing last Thursday night. Also - the older Skandic's headlights do not work - don't know if the daytime crew is aware of that

Maintenance backlog (I thought I had lost this one, but here it is late)

Yesterday when Gus and I were grooming we found out the DPDT switch for the tracksetter on the Skandic has died. Gus was smart enough to suggest we do a flip-flop of machine/implement so we ended up with the Ginzu on a VK and the TiddTech on the Skandic, and were able to finish with no further problems.

I also have the parts to get the rollers back in shape, and we need to try and unfreeze the tracksetter actuator on the other Ginzu. We also need to sett the bamboos on the open stretches before a big blow.

Maybe we could schedule an afternoon to get caught up on this stuff this week - I'm open on days except Thursday.

Thanks Dave and crew for the Thursday night packing.

Maintenance?

When?  I am not available tomorrow morning. Not sure of the rest of the day until tomorrow.

Equipment Maintenance

I'd like to run up to Mt. Haggin tomorrow (Wednesday) and address some our equipment issues. The tracksetter actuator circuit on the Skandic 800 EFI is not working, and the tracksetter actuator on the Brickert Ginzu is stuck. Also I have the parts to get the rollers back in shape.

Is anyone available tomorrow? Sorry for the short notice. This might include you Ray.

Short crew

It looks like you and me Gus. Are you good for 9:00?
I've been working, have company and not feeling well so will not plan to help grooming Friday.  Sorry but have to many things going this week.  Paul

Friday Grooming

I am available, what time?

Friday, 1/8/16 grooming schedule

Who's up for grooming tomorrow? Dave - are you guys going up tonight?

Friday, January 1, 2016

Our current temp is -16 and the 6:00 Wise River RAWS was -18. It has been going down there 1 or 2 degrees per hour since 7:00 last night. I agree with Paul that we give it a chance to bottom out and turn around - at least 10 AM. It's going to be tough to start the machines and we aren't going to have many skiers waiting on us. With no word from Dave I bet they didn't groom last night and I sure don't blame them. I bet we have lots of new snow to deal with.
